  About Carousel Farm

For as long as I can remember …..my love for horses has consumed my thoughts…..my daughter Lizzy seems to have inherited this love of horses.  I would consider my involvement with horses over the years to be the single most influential activity in my life.  My interaction with these wonderful animals has taught me many of life’s most important lessons……kindness, patience, tenacity, the value of a good work ethic, the setting and achievement of goals….I could go on and on.  In addition, my involvement with the horses has opened doors for some of my greatest life experiences and wonderful relationships with remarkable people….everything from riding in the Cotswold’s of England, traveling the countryside of Germany to driving up a desolate dirt road in Costa Rico with good friend Elizabeth Solter.

Located only 15 minutes from downtown State College, Carousel Farm is a 105 acre facility offering a 20 stall show barn, 9 stall show barn, 160 X 320 outdoor lighted ring with sand and rubber footing, a large indoor arena with rubber footing, a beautiful jump course, round pen grass trails for conditioning and excellent pasture (17 pasture & turnout areas).

At Carousel Farm we are involved in a variety of activities:

  • Premium private boarding for serious competitors or those seeking top quality care for their horse.
  • Top quality training and instruction.
  • Bridleless jumping perfomances by Lizzy Traband in Night of Amazing Horses and various horse expos across cthe ountry and in Canada.
  • Lizzy Traband is a national clinician teaching young rider, bridleless riding and jumping clinics.
  • Development of "Taiji Horsemanship"
  • Home of "Sonset's Sieger"...Trakehner stallion with world-class jumping bloodlines by "Abdullah" out of "Sonset" by "Haibicht" and Trakehner Stallion "Jet Run" out of last mare sired by international eventer "Caesar" bred to "Sonsets Sieger"
  • Home to several national riding camps, retreats and clinics
  • Participation in hunter and jumper competitions

For several decades Carousel Farm bred, trained and conpeted high quality hunter and jumper competition horses.  We recently downsized our breeding program to have more time to train and assist Lizzy in her performance efforts and the development of Taiji horsemanship.

Lizzy Traband of Carousel Farm founded Taiji Horsemanship and is in the process of making a variety of training DVDs.  In addition, Lizzy performs tricks and bridleless jumping routines choreographed to music at various expos and evening performances and teaches bridleless riding and jumping clinics around the country exclusively on Carousel Farm bred and trained horses.  Her pony "Toby" was recently made into a Breyer model.

The farm seeks out the assistance of good friend, Elizabeth Solter (AGA rider of the year, 38 national titles and rider of "Roxdene" considered to be "Hunter of the century") to provide continued growth, support and training in the competition arena.  Carousel Farm works with Tommie and Karen Turvey, stuntman, trick trainers and trainers of animals to the movie and entertainment industry out of Sterling Illinios, to provide continued growth, training and support in the trick riding and performance arena.

Our farm has competed at a variety of hunter/jumper competitions all over the country.  We compete and perform on horses that we have bred, trained and raised at our farm.  We are very attached to our horses and their individual personalities.  When we compete, sometimes we win, sometimes we don’t, but we aim to all be respectful in all of our performances and our interactions with our horses and others.  We have competed at some of the country’s top H/J competitions including:

  • International Hunter Futurity (IHF)
  • Numerous Central Pennsylvania year end championships (CPHC)
  • Devon Horse Show
  • Penn National Horse Show
  • Kentucky National Horse Show
  • Winter Equestrian Festival in West Palm Beach, Florida
  • National equitation finals
  • Various A-rated East Coast Horse Shows (Warrenton, Quentin, Vermont, Capital Challenge)
  • Numerous MD and PA 4-H state finals

Competing is not at the heart of our program.  Whether it is traveling to Maryland to train with Elizabeth Solter, fox hunting in Tennessee, camping at Cooks Forest with Tommie Turvey or driving to Chicago to perform in Night of Amazing Horses…. it is enjoying and embracing the many opportunities our involvement with these great animals provides that is at the heart of our program.

As we learn every day from the animals and the wonderful trainers that we have had the opportunity to work with over the years, we try to use what we have learned to help others to more to thoroughly enjoy their horses.
